Have you ever wanted to have a special ability? OK, how about if the world thought you were different and scary because you had that ability? That would be hard. Well, it is hard for Emerson. He is a level 5 RISK. He floats. If he is not wearing his weighted vest or special shoes he could literally float away. Sure he has contingency plans in place with the government for planes to deploy if he ever does escape his tethers, but he is very unhappy. He does not really have friends and hasn't experienced other typical kid moments.
This is a story of Emerson going to summer camp with other kids who are RISK. Here he experiences friendships, tough choices with the law, and some romance. Emerson goes to O camp where all the kids have abilities. To list a few: fire, invisibility, time travel, x-ray vision, sticky hands, and the list goes on. This is a funny book with crazy adventures. Check it out, I'm confident that you will enjoy it!

Here is what I am reading now.

This was a FUN book and a fast read. The main character, Emma is experiencing what we have all felt in our lives and questioned ourselves countless times, "Is it OK to be different?"

The book begins with Emma going with her dad, the game warden in Maine, to rescue a bunny. This happens the night before Emma goes to public school for the first time! Yikes! She is soooooo nervouse. More than anything she wants to find a best friend and fit in.

Her first day she is paired with Jack. Jack is different and doesn't fit in. Emma must decide if a true friend is someone who cares about you and is fun to be with OR makes you fit in. Hmmmmm.....

To be a strong reader we know that it is important to read books in a variety of genres. A genre that I do not read often is novels written in prose, so I am reading one. It is important for strong readers to push themselves and continue to work on reading in a variety of genres.

Wow. What a powerful book. It follows a girl whose sister is dealing with having mental health issues. It shows what the family endures while someone is challenged with mental health issues. It is full of emotion, honest emotion, that helps you understand what it would feel like to see a loved one suffer from a disease that is invisible and unpredictable.

Great novel!

I am almost done with this book and it does not disappoint. I read the first one in the series but seemed to have skipped the second! It didn't effect my comprehension at all.

The geniuses: Jack, Ava, and Matt are back trying to solve a mystery. This time the mystery takes the reader to Brazil and mainly the rainforest. Hank, their guardian, is missing. And after a break in at the lab,  the kids decide they need to go find him and protect his latest scientific discoveries.

I am finally at the part where I have discovered who the villain is, which surprised me. It was so fun to see the rainforest come alive in the description: piranhas, snakes, Kapok trees.

This book was GREAT- what an adventure the reader goes on with Jack, Ava, and Matt. Loved it! Also, since it is by Bill Nye the science guy you learn cool facts about the Amazon and the amazing inventions mentioned in the book. READ THIS FUN BOOK!

About four years ago I had a student who read this whole series! He declared it was a great series full of adventure. So far, I have to agree.
I'll let you know more when I finish it.

What a FUN book! This is a page turner for sure. You keep wanting to find out what is going to happen, and it is jam packed full of action!

Griffin's parents are struggling with money. His dad is an inventor, and he invented a cool tool, but it isn't selling.

Griffin and his best friend, Ben, sleep over at the old spooky house- even though everyone else chickens out. While there, they find an old baseball card. Griffin brings it to a pawn shop to see how much it is worth. The owner of the store assures him that it is only worth about $150, so Griffin trades him the card for the $150. That night Griffin is watching the news and the owner of the pawn shop is stating that he found a Babe Ruth baseball card and it is worth millions. WHAT?! That is the card that Griffin was told was only worth $150! It now becomes Griffin's quest to steal back the card that he rightfully stole first. He enlists a bunch of friends (and one enemy). Every friend has a specific set of skills that will help Griffin get that card back! Wow! The scene when they break into the owner of the pawn store's house is CRAZY!
Read this book!

This book was AWESOME! I was worried about how the characters would be able to band together to solve another mystery- but I shouldn't have worried, at all. So, the gang is back together again to help solve where Savannah's pet monkey, Cleopatra is. See, the whole grade goes on a field trip to a floating zoo. To be honest, it sounds pretty gross the way it smells and looks and how the animals are taken care of. The man who owns the floating zoo does not seem to care for or like animals. Well, scarily, this is where Savannah finds her pet monkey! But, the guy, Mr. Nastazy says that it is his! How could you prove that a monkey is yours?
Well, the team comes together to steal back Cleopatra for Savannah. On top of this, Ben's parents want to send him to a special school to help him with his insomnia. What?! Can Griffin and Ben make it without each other??
Seriously, you have to read this action packed book!

This book is HILARIOUS! Oh my goodness! I have never read any of the Diary of A Wimpy Kid Series books, but if you like those I am super confident that you will LOVE these all the more. The humor is outrageous! It is subtle but over the top funny. The main character Timmy Failure is a nut! He is a detective whose partner is a polar bear. He lives with his mom and his family struggles financially. Timmy is oblivious to EVERYTHING! He literally walks by culprits to the crimes he is investigating who are obviously the culprit, but he doesn't see it. He thinks that everything is the fault of his arch enemy and nemesis, The Evil One. This is a laugh out loud book that I just realized is a series! I think this will certainly hook readers who enjoy humor!

What a beautiful story of acceptance, bravery, and friendship. I didn't realize right away that it is by the same author as Because of the Rabbit.  So, Lily lives with her grandparents and her dog, Lucky. Lucky escapes from his collar one day and is saved by Salma, a migrant blueberry worker. A friendship develops between these two girls. They have to deal with their pasts, prejudice and seeing themselves for who they truly are. Ahhh...this is a beautiful story that leaves your heart happy. Sometimes it is nice to escape with a book like this.

What a fun book! This is about a beetle who befriends a boy. The boy is given an ink set for his birthday from his father. Late at night Marvin draws a picture for James, the boy, for his birthday of the scene outside his window. Well, when people find it they are amazed and think that James is an art prodigy! In fact, when James and his father go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art someone who works there comes up with a plan for James to help them find an art thief. Well, this is a pickle for James. He didn't really draw the picture, but he and Marvin work together to help bring an art thief to justice. But, things do not go as planned! Read this fun book!
